Iranian applicants for a new passport in Canada must, after creating an electronic file (profile) in the Mikhak system, completing the passport application form, and uploading the required documents, submit online to the Canada Headquarters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or visit the Interests Section of the Islamic Republic of Iran in person (with the tracking code received from the system) to complete the issuance and delivery process and receive their passport.

One of the required documents for passport renewal is a personal photo. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ instructions, this photo must have the following specifications:
Format and Size
- 2 inches by 2 inches
- No more than 3 months old
- Face centered in the photo
- Shoulders visible in the photo
- Fully frontal and full-face
- Chin to forehead measurement between 1 and 1.5 inches
- Face covers 60 to 75 percent of the photo
Background
- The background behind the head must be completely white
- No shadows in the background
- No other person or object other than the applicant in the photo
Facial Expression
- Mouth closed
- Facial expression should be completely natural
- No smiling, frowning, grimacing, or indirect gaze
Head Position
- Head not tilted or turned
- Face and eyes looking directly at the camera
- Head directly and without angle toward the camera
- (Men) Ears equally visible on both sides
Eye Position
- Hair not covering the eyes
- Eyes open and looking directly at the camera
- Camera level with the eyes during the photo shoot
Lighting
- No red-eye
- No shadows on the face
- Light evenly distributed on the face
Photo Quality
- Color photo
- Resolution at least 600 dpi
- High photo and paper quality
- Natural skin tone, without retouching or manipulation
Eyewear
- No hats
- No eyeglasses
- No scarves
Hijab
- Women with full Islamic hijab
- Hijab should not cast shadows on the face
- The face must be visible from under the chin to the top of the forehead
Focus
- Photo focus on the face
- No blurry photos
Important Notes
- Scanned photos from photo ID documents (driver’s license, passport, etc.), and low-quality photos are not acceptable.
- If you are photographing your infant or young child, make sure that no one else is in the photo. Do not hold the child in your arms. Place a white cloth on the floor or bed and lay the child on it. Then take a photo of their face from above. Make sure their eyes are open and there are no shadows on their face.
- Please write your first name, last name, father’s name, ID number, and date of birth on the back of the photos.
Failure to comply with the above instructions will result in the consulate requesting new photos and your case being suspended. In some cases, it may be possible to return the case without performing any consular services.
