A power of attorney is a legal document by which a person (the principal) authorizes another person (the attorney) to perform certain tasks on their behalf. Iranian residents of Canada can also arrange a power of attorney in Iran to pursue some of their affairs in Iran through an attorney. In this article, we examine the tasks that can be accomplished with an Iranian power of attorney in Canada.
Types of Power of Attorney and Their Uses
Powers of attorney are divided into different categories based on the type of attorney’s authority. Some of these cases include:
Power of Attorney for Administrative, Business, and Signature Verification Matters
This type of power of attorney is used for administrative matters such as pursuing pension rights, obtaining a certificate of life, a certificate of singleness, signing affidavits, and purchasing movable property. For example, a person living in Canada can pursue and receive their pension rights by granting power of attorney to their attorney in Iran.
Power of Attorney for Selling or Transferring Movable Property
This power of attorney is used for selling or transferring movable property such as machinery, automobiles, boats, telephones, stock shares, and more. For example, a person who intends to sell their car in Iran can assign the sale of the car to their attorney using this power of attorney.
Power of Attorney for Selling or Transferring Immovable Property
This type of power of attorney is used for selling or any type of transfer of property, land, private company shares, hospitals, and more. For example, if a person in Canada owns property in Iran and intends to sell it, they can do so through this power of attorney.
Power of Attorney for Purchasing Immovable Property
This power of attorney authorizes the attorney to purchase property or land in Iran on behalf of the principal.
Will Confirmation
Using this power of attorney, the attorney can present the principal’s will to the legal authorities in Iran and follow its legal procedures.
Video Interview for Non-Attendance Signature Power of Attorney
For some powers of attorney, the possibility of conducting a non-attendance video interview is provided. This provides greater convenience for Iranians residing in Canada.
Translation and Document Verification
The attorney can use the power of attorney to translate and obtain certified copies of various documents such as birth certificates, driver’s licenses, national cards, marriage and divorce certificates.
Confirmation of Identity Photos and Digital Photos
Confirmation of identity and digital photos is also one of the tasks that can be done through a power of attorney.
Confirmation of Certificates
Certificates of birth, local marriage certificates, local divorce certificates, tax administration documents, social security documents, court verdicts, and adoption are also verifiable by an attorney.
Document Notarization
Images of ID cards or passports and other documents can also be notarized by an attorney.
Confirmation of Medical Treatment Documents
Confirmation of various medical treatment documents such as eye examinations, pregnancy tests, blood tests, and pet certificates (except hospital bills and treatment reports) is possible through a power of attorney.

With a power of attorney, Iranian residents of Canada can perform many of their tasks in Iran without needing to travel to the country.
