Passport - Issuance and Renewal

A passport is your identity document for traveling abroad. If your passport expires, its pages are filled, it is lost or damaged, or if there are changes in your personal information, you will need to reissue and renew your passport.

When do you need to issue or renew a passport?
  • Expiration: Your passport must have at least 6 months of validity.
  • Filled pages: If the pages of your passport are full.
  • Lost or damaged: If the passport is lost or damaged.
  • Change of Name and Last Name: In case of change of name and last name.
  • Change of Date of Birth in Identity Document (Shenasnameh): In case of change of date of birth in your Shenasnameh.
  • Change of Residence: In case of change of residence.
Important Points
  • Women should upload an image of their husband’s permission for passport issuance, if they have it.
  • Father, paternal grandfather, or legal guardian can apply for a passport for a child or grandchild under 18 years old. In this case, providing the Shenasnameh and a document proving guardianship is mandatory.
  • Carefully enter the address and postal code for sending the new passport.

Iranians residing abroad, if they are unable to be present in Iran, are authorized to delegate their affairs, including buying and selling properties, handling property matters, legal cases related to divorce and marriage, and other legal matters, to a lawyer in Iran by drafting and registering a Power of Attorney.

Consular services are provided for Iranians residing abroad to facilitate identity, legal, and administrative matters. These services include the registration of vital events such as birth, marriage, and death, the issuance and replacement of Shenasnameh, the authentication of documents, and the provision of necessary certificates. The goal of these services is to expedite and facilitate consular processes and reduce the need for in-person visits, in line with maintaining effective communication between Iranians and the official institutions of the country.

  • Birth Registration and Shenasnameh Issuance: Registering information related to the birth of Iranian nationals abroad and issuing Shenasnameh for Iranian infants residing abroad.
  • Shenasnameh Replacement: The possibility of replacing old and damaged Shenasnameh with a new one.
  • Issuance of Duplicate Shenasnameh: In case of loss or damage, it is possible to obtain a duplicate Shenasnameh for eligible individuals.
  • Adding Photo to Shenasnameh: Adding a photo to the Shenasnameh for individuals over 15 years old according to Civil Registration laws.
  • Change of Name and Last Name: Providing services for changing name and last name in accordance with Iranian Civil Registration laws.
  • Adding Spouse and Children’s Names to Shenasnameh: Registering spouse and children’s information in the Shenasnameh to complete identity records.

  • Translation and Authentication of Death Certificate: Providing official translation and authentication services for death certificates for use in Iran and abroad.
  • Translation and Authentication of Birth Certificate: Translating and authenticating birth documents issued in foreign countries for registration in Iran.
  • Issuance of Single Status Certificate: Issuing an official single status certificate for Iranian individuals who need to present this document in legal matters.
  • Issuance of Marriage Certificate / Proof of Marriage: Providing a marriage certificate for Iranians who need to prove their marital status in legal and administrative matters.
  • Death Registration: Official registration of the death of Iranian nationals abroad and issuance of the relevant certificate.
